Welcome to The Jolly Woodman
Our landlady Marianne hails from Birmingham and qualified as a State Registered Nurse at the city's
Dudley Road Hospital. She married Rob in 1957 and after moving to Cheltenham and starting a family, joined the Gloucestershire Constabulary in 1972. She left the police force in 1977 when the family moved to Hereford where Rob took charge of his own butchers shop. In 1979, Marianne became a residential social worker with the mentally-handicapped for the next five years before leaving to join Rob in his butcher's shop.
On 1st. August 2007, Marianne became the landlady of The Jolly Woodman in the village of Dropmore on Littleworth Common and Rob was soon busy making all the meat pies and puddings.
You may recognise The Jolly Woodman from it's film and television appearances in which both the interior and the exterior have frequently been used in popular and successful productions including the films
Carry on Dick (when it was euphemistically renamed The Cock Inn!), Genevieve and Made of Honour and the television series Midsomer Murders.
We look forward to welcoming you.
Sadly, our Bearded Collie, Max, who we adopted when he was eleven years old, suffered liver failure and passed away on 6th. August 2011.
